Jim Kaufman

University of York

I’m Jim, a researcher, and I live in Sheffield with my partner Kat and our two young children. I work full time on Changing Realities. When I’m not working or parenting - so not as often as I might like - I enjoy playing piano. I used to enjoy reading fiction, but these days if I stop moving I more or less instantly fall asleep. I believe that a humane, functioning social security system is essential for the realisation of social justice and equality. I’d like it to become much more difficult for people - politicians, policymakers, the media - to attack and undermine social security with untruthful distortions and stereotypes. In my own life, I’d like to get more sleep.

Changing Realities is a collaboration between parents and carers, researchers at the University of York, and Child Poverty Action Group.
Changing Realities is funded by abrdn Financial Fairness Trust.
Changing Realities' sister project is Covid Realities, which ran from 2020 to 2022, and was funded by the Nuffield Foundation
